Do & Don’t
How to behave in Laos ?
As anywhere else, the default attitude is to pay attention to basic rules of politeness. Making a good first impression for yourself will be a greatly appreciated by the Lao people who are often as shy as they are gentle.
A formal greeting for most Lao people is the “Nop” (joining one’s hands together in a praying gesture at chin level). Handshakes are also commonly used among male friends and with foreign visitors.
